My mother received her education in this country schoolhouse. After my siblings and I were born it became the place where my whole family would meet for our annual reunion. I took this picture in 2006, a few years after we had stopped using it, and a couple of years later it was torn down. I regret not having the information beforehand that it was being demolished. I would have loved to preserved its rich history.

How sad that this little piece of history is no more. At least you have your photo and your memories.
It is sad to see the destruction of places that meant so much to us personally. Your story reminds me of a house that I rented in Chicago for many years. A few years ago, I found out that the house had been demolished and replaced with an ugly condominium. I wish I had a picture as you do. Thanks for sharing this memory.
Lovely shot of this shed! I regret not taking all the pics of the old sheds I have seen and could not stop to photograph, great shot!
An ideal interpretation of this weeks theme.

Nice shot of the shed, accompanied by the great story behind it. Sorry that it’s not there now but it’s good that you had it preserved with your photograph 🙂
Nice shot! I pass by old buildings and wonder the history behind them. Thanks for sharing.

Isn’t it wonderful to have the photos. I can come up with a very long list of things I regret connected to pieces of family history I can no longer retrieve. Our family has had some really great family reunions, too, where we “go back” to where my grandmother lived, or went to school in rural Mississippi. Your photo took me back to some very happy memories. Thank you. Debra
That is really sad. You would think they would have preserved it. 😦

This happens to us all and by the time we are ready to claim the space, life has moved forward. What a gorgeous building too.

I often take photos of buildings like this, although many of my photos hold no ‘personal’ memories, I know one day they will be gone and so will the charm of an era gone by. You have an opportunity here to keep this building and its memories alive with your photograph and your story, so all is not totally lost.
Old buildings are full of fun and laughter, if only the walls could speak, then perhaps they would be repaired and renovated and not be torn down

Thankfully you got a photo to remember the building. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I can relate to that regret…so many times it seems lately that buildings are torn down and rich history is lost…thanks for sharing.
